Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of chitosan in the ration on the interior quality of silver arabic chicken eggs. This research was carried out for 7 weeks in August to September 2019 in Experimental Housing of Animal Science Study Program and Laboratory of Animal Feed and Nutrition, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This study used 60 Arab Silver chickens that began laying eggs (4.5 months). This research method uses a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The ration used was basal ration consisting of corn, rice bran and concentrate added with chitosan. The treatments used in this study were 6 treatments with 5 replications consisting of: R1 (control), R2 (basal ration + 0.5% chitosan), R3 (basal ration + 1% chitosan), R4 (basal ration + chitosan 1.5%), R4 (basal ration + chitosan 2%), R5 (basal ration + chitosan 2.5%). The variables observed in this study were the index of egg whites, index of yolk, yolk weight, egg white weight, and haugh unit. The research data were then analyzed by variance (ANOVA) and if the treatment had a significant effect, it was followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test. The results of this study indicate that the administration of chitosan in the ration significantly affected the egg yolk index (P <0.5) but did not significantly affect the haugh unit, white weight, yolk weight, and egg white index. The conclusion of this study is that the administration of chitosan in the ration has an effect on increasing the index of the yolk, but has not been able to increase the haugh unit, white weight, yolk weight and egg white index.
