Abstract
This study discusses the issue of whether there is an influence of the genre-based approach than conventional methods in learning exposition text writing skills in class X MAN 1 Kabupaten Ogan Ilir. The aim of this study is to find out the effect of the application of the genre-based approach on students’ exposition writing skill in class X MAN 1 Kabupaten Ogan Ilir. The method used in this study was quasiexperimental. The sample of the study was around 60 students with 30 students of X MIA 1 class as the experimental class with the treatment process genre-based approach, and 30 students of X MIA 2 class as the control class with conventional writing learning treatment.The hypothesis of this study was the difference of students' ability to write text exposition between the students taught using the genre-based approach and students taught by conventional.The technique of collecting data was a test, while the data analysis was a statistical technique with a t-test.The results of this study showed that there was a difference in ability to write exposition text between students who were taught by using the genre-based approach and conventional methods.The average value of the students who used the genre-based approach was higher than the students taught by conventional models.The average value of the experimental class and control class from the t-test showed that t count (5,312) > t table (2,002).The result showed that there is an effect of the genre-based approach to the ability to write exposition text than conventional models.
