Abstract
Background: Working memory is a form of short-term memory that lasts usually in seconds or minutes or can be stored in long term memory. Murottal Qur'an is a recording of al-Quran recitation voiced by a Qori '(al-Quran reader) in rhythm. Chanting of the holy verses of al-quran by a Qori 'which is played through a zoom meeting by paying attention to the tajwid and tartils that have a certain rhythm so that they can stimulate activation in the brain area.. This study aims to analyze the effect of the murottal Quran on working memory in students of the 2017 Medical Education Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University. Methods: This study used experimental research with a cross-sectional approach with one group pretest-posttest design which was conducted from July to December 2020 through the Zoom meeting application. The pretest and posttest examinations used in this study were digit span checks, in the form of assignments containing forward digits and backward digits before and after receiving the Murottal Al-Qur'an intervention for 7 consecutive days at 22.00. The data was performed on the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, then analyzed using the Paired t-test or Wilcoxon test using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) program. Results: 45 students were the research subjects. The results of the Wilcoxon test showed significant results of murottal al-Qur'an on working memory (p = 0.000) in students of the Medical Education Study Program Class of 2017, Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University Conclusion: There is an effect of the murottal Al-Quran on working memory in students of the 2017 Medical Education Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University.
