Abstract
Mangrove leaves are a natural source of various toxic secondary metabolites. The toxic activity that comes from natural materials can be further developed by humans in pharmacology. The mangrove type A. marina on the coast of South Sumatra is quite dominant compared to other types. This research was conducted to analyze the level of toxicity of A. marina leaf extract using a graded extraction of ethyl acetate and methanol solvents and to analyze phenol levels, phytochemical components, and GC-MS based on the most substantial toxicity level. This research was conducted from September to November 2020. A. marina leaf samples were taken from the Tanjung Api-api area, South Sumatra. Furthermore, the sample was tested for toxicity using the Brine Shrimp Lethality Test method, phenol content analysis, phytochemical analysis, and GC-MS analysis. Based on the toxicity test results, the LC50 value of the ethyl acetate extract was 454 μg/ mL, and the methanol extract was 740 μg/mL. Furthermore, ethyl acetate extract contained a phenol content of 1.3205 mg GAE/gr, and the results of phytochemical tests contain saponins, flavonoids, and steroids. In contrast, the GC-MS analysis contained terpenoids, alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids, and saponins. The results of this study are expected to provide important information in the development of the search for sources of secondary metabolite compounds from marine and coastal natural materials.
