Abstract
Mentawai Islands Regency is one of the regencies in West Sumatra which have very high natural tourism potential. But this potential is not supported by sufficient accommodation. By providing a resort, it is hoped that it can become a shelter for those who want to enjoy the natural beauty that this islands provide. The design of this resort in the Mentawai Islands uses a Vernacular Architecture approach with the aim of introducing Mentawai Culture to the outside world. In addition, this approach is also very adaptable to the climate and natural disasters that often occur in the Mentawai Islands, such as earthquakes and tsunamis. Using locally available materials that very unique and easy to find. In the site design, the building arrangement was carried out by applying the Mentawai Tribe social structure. To be able to adapt to earthquake shocks that often occur in the Mentawai islands, the structural system in each building is designed to be adaptable to earthquake shocks by borrowing the structural system from UMA and several other traditional houses that have been proven to withstand shocks. A resort that is located on an island that is very far from the regional infrastructure must have its own utility system that is able to support the needs of the resort itself. The resort's clean water system uses a borehole which is then pumped into the water tower which will then distribute water to each building. For electrical systems using the Solar Panel system by placing Photovoltaics in each building according to the electrical needs of each building.
