Abstract

Palembang is one of the biggest cities in Indonesia with music activities that are quite popular within public. The development of music that has increased from year to year has given birth to facilities such as music studios, recording studios, music karaoke, music performance rooms, and others. But the existence of these facilities is still inadequate. Starting from its spread out and the rental of these facilities is quite expensive. This is one of the factors in the forming of a music community in Palembang City. Since the amount of interest and problems that exist, thus the authors are interested in designing a Music Center as a center for music activities in the city of Palembang, which consists of several facilities and infrastructure for musicians, music artists, and the general public who are interested in music. For the concept, the author takes the Architectural Expressionism, where the building is designed to apply musical symbols as the building's characters. The application of the building facade that forms an up and down pattern on the placement of the building's lattice making it looks dynamic. Then the entrance of the building with the characteristic of music applied in the form of a building canopy. For the application of the material, it uses exposed material that is accordance to the characteristics of the Architectural Expressionism concept.
