Abstract

This research is motivated by promotion of South Korea tourism and the effect of Korean Wave (hallyu) popularity in the world. This research aims to find out the meaning of the message delivered through visual, verbal, non-verbal, and language signs on Imagine Your Korea tourism advertisement Have You Ever version. The method used in this research is a qualitative method. Data collection techniques are conducted through analysis and literature review. The theory that used in this research is the theory of Semiotics by Charles Sanders Peirce. The meaning behind the sign is then analyzed with Representant, Sign, and Interpretant dimensions which are then described through icon, object, and symbol contained in the sign. The conclusion of this research is every sign that appeared in the advertisement has interrelated meaning. Furthermore, these signs are also related to the target audience in Korea tourism industry, Korean history, characteristics of the Korean nation, and Korean culture as Korea’s tourism attraction.
