Abstract
Telah dilakukan sintesis komposit bentonit-kitosan dan aplikasinya untuk menyerap fenol. Kitosan diisolasi dari limbah cangkang udang dari pabrik pengalengan udang. Karakterisasi bentonit-kitosan dilakukan dengan SEM-EDX (Scanning Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive X-Ray). Parameter adsorpsi bentonit-kitosan terhadap fenol meliputi konsentrasi fenol, berat komposit, pH dan waktu kontak. Hasil karakterisasi SEM-EDX menunjukkan adanya elemen karbon pada komposit yang mengindikasikan bahwa kitosan telah terikat dengan bentonit. Penyerapan terbaik komposit bentonit-kitosan terhadap fenol diperoleh pada konsentrasi fenol 125 ppm, berat komposit 1 g dan tidak adanya perubahan daya adsorpsi pada range pH 6-9 serta waktu kontak 30-120 menit. Pada penelitian ini tidak didapatkan kondisi optimum untuk komposit bentonit-kitosan. Kata kunci: komposit, bentonit, kitosan, adsorpsifenol.
