Abstract

This study aims to describe the perceptions of parents about literacy in children aged (5-8) years in the Srijaya Palembang Village. This research uses a qualitative descriptive research type. The data collection techniques used in this study were interviews, observation and documentation, the data analysis used was the Miles and Huberman model of data analysis, namely data collection from interviews, observations, and documentation. Then, reducing the data obtained from the field, presenting the data in the form of a short narrative and drawing conclusions. This study uses three research subjects, namely parents who have children aged (5-8) years. The results of this study indicate that the positive attitude of parents to children and always provide support to children in order to maintain the spirit of literacy. Every parent has a different point of view about reading and writing literacy, differences in the perception of reading and writing literacy are common things that are certain that people's expectations when they have implemented literacy are children who already recognize the form of reading and how to write well, this is an effort parents for children to be active in carrying out reading and writing literacy. Parents' perceptions of good literacy will affect children's literacy skills, especially children aged (5-8) years, providing adequate reading books (attracting children's attention), parents' time to accompany children, and also the child's mood. good will have a good impact on their literacy skills.
