Abstract

In general, Indonesia is a country which rich in technological development and information progress. Especially in Palembang city, the development of information and technology provides a significant impact on people's lives in absorbing and processing an existing information. The development of information technology itself is very closely related to literacy. Nations that have a high literacy culture play an important role in obtaining competitive edge. In addition to education, the environment also plays an important role in influencing the development aspect of literacy among the community, there it needs an environment that is able to support the potential and cultural interest of literature community. This environment can be realized in the form of Education, Recreation and Creative facilities combined with Literacy Education in which could has been formed to the facility that called Literature Center. Where the building can accommodate Literature development activities for all the people that once be able to hold a flexible and dynamic building concept that can provide variations for the reading room, learning space and community activities. The development of literacy center will also be supported by the network technology as information access, in order to make it easier for users and communities to seek references and find digital-based information sources.
