Abstract

Cases of under-fives with nutritional status below the red line (BGM) in Palembang City in 2015 were 610 toddlers. For Sukarame sub-district, nutritional status below the red line (BGM) is 0.61%, Ilir Barat 1 District is 0.21%, Kecamatan Kemuning District is 0,07%, dan Kecamatan Ilir Timur 1 District is 0,75%. Breast milk is the most perfect food source with sufficient content for the developmental purposes of the child. Breast milk contains special nutrients that are not or only in small amounts in other milks, such as nutrients needed for brain growth. If the child is not breastfed, it will increase the risk of developmental disorders. This study aims to determine the relationship between breastfeeding and the development of children aged 36-59 months in Palembang City. The sampling technique uses cluster random sampling. Primary data is obtained by filling out a questionnaire. Data analysis using the Chi-square test. The results of the analysis of breastfeeding variables get (p = 1,000), exclusive breastfeeding gets (p = 1,000), maternal education gets (p = 0.268), sex of children get (p = 0.099), nutritional status of children get (p = 0.220), and family economic status gets (p = 0.167), while the variable length of breastfeeding gets (p = 0.016), and maternal knowledge gets (p = 0.046). The conclusion of this study is from Fisher's exact test results stated that there was no relationship between breastfeeding on the development of children aged 36-59 months. The results of the Chi-square test state that exclusive breastfeeding, education, gender, nutritional status, and family economic status do not relationship the development of children aged 36-59 months, while breastfeeding duration and knowledge relationship the development of children aged 36-59 months.
