Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of the Meaningful Instructional Design model on the ability to write poetry in VIII grade students of SMP Negeri 13 Palembang. This study used a pre-experimental design method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research sample consisted of 32 students from class VIII 1 who were given an initial test before being given treatment and a final test after being treated using a Meaningful Instructional Design model. The data collection technique used a test technique, namely writing skills. Meanwhile, the data processing technique used a paired simple test and a t-test with the SPSS 25 program. The average score for the initial test was 46.09 and the final test score was 69.59. The results of hypothesis testing using paired simple test calculations through SPSS 25 obtained the results of sig values. (2 tailed) in table 0.000 < 0.025, which means Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. The value of t table is 2,040. After knowing the value, it can be concluded that t count = 13,268 > t table = 2,040 which means Ho is rejected and Ha.
