Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh hormone metiltestosteron, pada perendaman larva ikan guppy dengan konsentrasi yang berbeda terhadap keberhasilan pembentukan ikan berkelamin jantan. Penelitian ini lelah dilaksanakan pada bulan November 2011 sampai Januari 2012 di Unit Pembenihan Rakyat Batanghari Sembilan Indralaya. Pelaksanaan penelitian ini meliputi persiapan alat dan bahan, perendaman larva, pemeliharaan larva, pemberian pakan, menghitung kelangsungan hidup, persentase jantan dan kualitas air dari larva ikan guppy. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa perendaman larva ikan guppy dalam larutan hormonc metiltestosteron dengan konsentrasi 125 mg.L-1 air menghasilkan ikan jantan tertinggi sebesar 80,93 %. Kelangsungan hidup ikan guppy saat pemeliharaan tertinggi yaitu 96,67 % pada perlakuan MTo (0 mg.L-1) dan MT2 (100 mg.L -1). Kualitas air hasil pengukuran masih dalam kisaran toleransi yaitu suhu 25-30 °C, pil 5,4 - 6,5 dan kandungan oksigen 5,0 - 5,7 mg.L-1.
