Abstract

Background: Menopause is the final stage of the biological processes that women experience which is decrease in production of the female sex hormones estrogen and progesterone in the ovaries.Menopause occurs when a person is no menstruation for one-year period. Generally occurs at the age of around 50 years. Many factors influence the occurrence of menopause, one of which is menarche age. Method: This research aimed to determine the correlation between menarche age factor and know other factors that also affect menopause in women in Village Sekip Jaya Palembang in 2012. This research is a descriptive anal y ti c survey. When the research was conducted in October-December 2012, the number of population is the entire population in Village Sekip Jaya Palembang with a total sample Is 120 people. Result: The results of research, obtainable the most respondents with habit of not smoking (98.8%), married status (96.7%), light work load (94.2%), recent childbearing age < 40 years (87.1%), the number of children > 3 people (78.5%), age of menopause <50 years (60.8%), do not suffer from chronic diseases (60%), menarche age < 15 years (59.2%), and never use contraception (53.3%). The average age of menopause is 48 years, the average menarche age is 14 years, the average the number of children is 5 and the average last child-bearing age of 34 years. And the factors that have a significant relationship to the age of menopause is menarche age (p = 0.043), and number of children (p = 0.029). Conclusion: It is expected to further research could take a broader sample of the population and should be searched again and other factors related to the age of menopause, in addition to the above factors. such as the relationship between nutritional status, body weight, educational status, and so on menopause.
