Abstract

The govemment of Palembang city had released Smoke Free Area policy to prevent smoking and cigarette trade in certain areas, including Senior High School Number 1 in Palembang. This is the first time research study about implementation of the district law in this school is conducted. The purpose of this study is to acknowledge the implementation of Palembang district law number 7 year 2009 in Senior High School Number 1 Palembang 2011. This study uses qualitative approach with interview form in-depth interview on a number of informants that already chosen and observation at Senior High Scholl Number 1 Palembang. This study was conducted in November-December 2011. The study result showed that the most of members of the school acknowledge that Smoke Free Area has been conducted at Senior High Scholl Number 1 Palembang, although not fully optimized since the coordination and System of the implementation is not maximal yet. The socialization of Palembang district law Number 7 Year 2009 has been done since 2009 and then before it issued regulations already imposed smoking ban. Still found obstacles in the implementation of regulations, but support ffom the public schools can improve the socialization little by little. Therefore, the implementation of the Area No Smoking policy is effective, several factors need to be considered by implementers.
