Abstract

This study aims to describe the understanding and mastery of Indonesian vocabulary for children aged 5-6 years in the village of Sukaneger, Ogan Komering Ulu Timur. This study used descriptive qualitative method. This study also uses data collection techniques by carrying out observations, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis used by researchers is the qualitative data analysis model of Miles and Huberman. Then the data that has been obtained from the field is reduced by data reduction, with the form of data presentation in the form of clear and brief descriptions, as well as data conclusions drawn through data validity techniques using technical triangulation. The subjects in this study were children aged (5-6) years in Sukanegeri Village, East Ogan Komering Ulu. The results of the study stated that mastery and understanding of Indonesian vocabulary in children needs to get used to communicating using Indonesian vocabulary from a young age by not interfering with the vocabulary of other languages first or it could be for parents to use the application of monolingual acquisition or first language with Indonesian so that children are more understand and master Indonesian vocabulary later.
