Abstract

As the largest fertilizer producer industry in South Sumatera, an UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) system is needed at PT Pupuk Sriwidjaja Palembang as a back up power at critical loads. Batteries on UPS systems have an important role as a store of electrical energy that can be used at any time when there is a problem with the main power source so that a good charging system is needed. This study aims to determine the battery charging process and the efficiency value of the UPS when it is supplying power. From 174 battery cells, nearly all of Nickel Cadmium battery cells that are used as energy storage on the UPS show optimal voltage values which are equal to 1.4 Volts as stipulated in the floating charge while only a few cells still show the value of high battery charging rate of 1.5 Volt. In addition to the value of battery cell voltage, also obtained the results of calculation of efficiency through the data obtained. Efficiency of UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) at PT. Pupuk Sriwidjaja has a minimum efficiency of 76% obtained on January 7, 2019 while the maximum efficiency of 93% is obtained on January 14, 2019.
