Abstract

The study aims to determine the selected formulation of the brown algae extract (Sargassum sp.) of peel-off mask products as antibacterial (Propionibacterium acnes). This research was carried out using laboratory experiments, making peel-off masks with the addition of brown algae extract (Sargassum sp.) 0%, 2%, 4%, and 6% with 2 replications. Characterization of peel�off mask preparations by organoleptic test, viscosity test, pH test, spreadability test, mask drying time test, and antibacterial test. The analysis was carried out using a randomized block design then further tested with BNJ. The results of the brown algae extract test of (Sargassum sp.) to know bioactive compound, with the FT-IR test, obtained O-H stretch, C-H stretch, hydrogen bond carboxylates acid/C-H asymmetric stretch CH3, C=O ester/C=O carboxylates, C=C aromatic, dan C-O. And then antibacterial test results at concentrations of 25% (7.1 mm), 50% (7.6 mm), and 100% (6.8 mm). The results of the peel-off mask test for (Sargassum sp.) brown algae extract, organoleptic test on days 0 to 14 there was no visible change in the preparation, viscosity test 7217.5-23245 cps, pH test 6.29-7.115, dispersion test 7-7.35 , the mask dry time test was 15-17.5 minutes, and the antibacterial test was on Formula I (6.8 mm), Formula II (7.3 mm), and Formula III (6.6 mm). The best formulation for making peel-off masks is the addition of brown algae extract (Sargassum sp.) 4% (Formula II) with an average viscosity value of 21496.5, a pH value of 6.45, a spreadability value of 7.35, a mask drying time value of 17.5, and an antibacterial test value of 7.3 mm.
