Abstract
This study aims to determine the effective concentration of NaOH to extract cellulose fiber from nipah fruit flour (Nypa fruticans) so that the optimum cellulose extract is obtained. This study used a chemical experimental method with two continuous phases, the delignification process using NaOH solvent and followed by the bleaching process using NaClO solvent. This study used a non-factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 3 (three) treatments, A1 (NaOH 8% and NaClO 6%), A2 (NaOH 10% and NaClO 6%), and A3 (NaOH 12% and NaClO 6%). The parameters observed were yield analysis, content analysis of hemicellulose, cellulose, and lignin content, and analysis of the characteristics of cellulose fibers using FTIR (Fourier Transform Infra-Red) analysis. The yield value results obtained from the three treatments were 67% (NaOH 8% and NaClO 6%), 78.18% (NaOH 10% and NaClO 6%), and 85.53% (NaOH 12% and NaClO 6%). The result of cellulose content ranges from 27.17 to 34.98%. Hemicellulose contents were ranges from 23.24-33.71%. Lignin contents were ranges from 2.35-3.53%. By FTIR methods, nipah cellulose had the same functional groups at three different concentrations, the alkane hydrocarbon functional groups, hydroxyl functional groups (hydrogen bond), hydroxyl functional groups (carboxylic acid), alkene functional groups, and ether functional groups which shifted in wave frequency due to reaction with solvents.
